Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

An elder Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me…it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

“This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person too,” he added.

The Grandchildren thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed…”

Yesterday I saw the movie “Tomorrowland” and was moved to start a discussion about the present course of humanity. We have become so fascinated with seeing through the eyes of the wolf that manifests all the negative, fearful, hateful things assaulting us from every side, that we have lost much of our hope that there could be anything else. I am here to say ENOUGH! There IS another way!

We have a choice to look from the eyes and act from within the heart of the wolf that embodies goodness, kindness, and peace. Let us as a whole begin to breathe life back into hope. Without it we are less than human. We must begin to balance the negative bombarding us to become the people I know we are capable of being. It takes only one person performing one small act to begin to tip the balance. As the balance changes act by act, there comes a tipping point where the change cascades and is unstoppable. I challenge you to begin the journey back to hope.

  1. As your son, I should have known you’d get around to this sooner or later — spreading your love all over the Internet. What’s the matter? Ain’t I enough to care about?

I know what you’re gonna say: you have enough love for more than just me. You pulled that one after I heard you tell Daddy that you love HIM. But I say: are you sure? I don’t want to get cheated, you know. After all, I’m adopted, and very sensitive…
